Rice thrashing(3年生)

Last Thursday, the class of 79 was able to see how much rice they grew. After harvesting the rice a week earlier, the rice was drying under cover in the SL courtyard.

On Thursday morning, the atmosphere was full of excitement as the students were excited to use the rice thrasher to separate the rice from the stems. The students at Hibarigaoka can use the 2 old-fashioned rice thrashers that the school had in their collection of old artifacts.

With the help from the parent volunteers, the students could process 2-3 bundles of rice in a short time. Afterward, the rice was put into the rice huller, the hull and rice separated. The students reaction as the clean rice came out was wonderful as they seemed to think they had seen a magic performance.

The 3rd grade students and teachers alike are very thankful for the parent volunteers. It was because of their help, the students had such a wonderful experience.

The last step in this process is to see the rice after it has been processed. We are excited to hear the children’s voices after they eat the fruits of their labor.
