“Lucky You!” – A Lesson from Math Class(3年生)

I walked into the 3rd-grade math class today and found the students working hard on adding and subtracting distances. Math can be tricky—you have to remember the correct units and make sure your decimal points are perfectly lined up!

Naturally, mistakes happened. But the teacher’s reaction was pure gold. instead of just marking answers wrong, she told the class: “If you made a mistake today, lucky you! When we have the test tomorrow, you won’t make a mistake!”

It was a perfect example of a “growth mindset,” and it reminded me so much of how we approach mistakes in English class. To wrap up, the students glued their work into their notebooks, creating a personalized textbook they can look back on later. It is wonderful to see math being taught in such an encouraging and organized way.
