A curious find

In the middle of May, the 4th graders started to plant what would be this year’s green curtain. It is hard to believe that 2 months has already passed.

The green curtain is starting to look fuller by the day. The rainy season is finally wrapping up and we all hope that the curtain will be able to make it through the upcoming heat that the summer months will bring. Taking a closer look at the green curtain, and especially the cucumber section of it, we were surprised to find this monster.

It measures about 40 centimeters across and weighs more than 800 grams. Cucumber found in Japanese supermarkets usually measure around 20 to 23 centimeters and weigh about 100 to 140 grams. This one clearly dwarfs them in size. When asking the 4th graders what they would do with a cucumber like this, there were many responses.

“I want to cool it down and eat it just like that!”

“I would make pickles with it!”

“I want to eat it with cold noodles!”

“I like to eat cucumber with sweet miso!”

It seems like there are many ideas. Doesn’t it make you want to have some cucumber with your dinner tonight?
