Connecting science and art(1年生)

Growing morning glory plants  is one of  more traditional activities for 1st graders around the country. But instead of just watching the plants grow from a seed into a large winding plant with beautiful flowers, the class of 78回生 picked the flowers from their plants, then put them into a plastic bag. After the bag was closed tight, the students smashed the flowers and added a little water to pull the color from the flower.

Then the students combined their flower color into a container.  With folded paper, the students took turns dipping their paper into the color. Everyone could chose how they would design their paper. Once their paper was dried, they will cover the bones of their fans with the paper their designed.

When ever we can take a normal activity, then turn it into a science experience and then connect it to our Japanese culture, that is a real life lesson.

What great memories for the class of 78!
