Introducing the compass(3年生)

Recently our students have started using compasses as a point of study in their math classes. Since it is the first time for many of them to touch or use a compass, they started by learning how to handle it and the different ways it can be used. Many of the students had a difficult time in the beginning but they are getting used to being able to hold the compass on a set point while rotating it in a circle at the same time. Through trial and error and repeated use, our students have started to gain confidence in using a compass to not only draw perfect circles, but also to solve different types of math problems that require measurement as well as creating amazing patterns and pictures.

This week the students had some time to think of and create some patterns or pictures using just a compass.  Here are some pieces of work that a few students designed.
