Learning about a legend(3年生)

A few weeks ago our third graders had the opportunity to go to the Tezuka Osamu Museum located in Takarazuka city. Being that Hibarigaoka is located in Takarazuka, and the students are learning about the area around the school in their social studies class, it was a great opportunity to learn about a legendary figure that grew up so close to where school is.

Along with being probably one of the most significant manga artists of all time, the students learned many interesting facts about Tezuka Osamu including that he was very interested in insects and that he went to medical school to become a doctor.

They had an amazing time freely exploring the different areas of the museum. In one area the students were able to try out some simple animation using some of their own original drawings. For students that wanted to take a more relaxed approach to the museum, there was a reading area where visitors could sample the different manga that Tezuka Osamu had written over his career.

After learning so much about what an influential person Tezuka Osamu was, the students are now writing about what they learned in a newspaper format. They are really enjoying reliving their time at the museum and some are even drawing their own drawings for their newspaper. We look forward to seeing the amazing works that they will be able to produce.
